What to know about Todd Blanche’s confirmation hearing:
- Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is set to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee at 9 a.m. for his confirmation hearing to lead the Justice Department in a permanent capacity.
- President Trump nominated Blanche for attorney general last month. He has been serving in an acting capacity since Mr. Trump fired Pam Bondi as attorney general in April.
- Blanche served as the president’s personal criminal defense attorney before joining the Justice Department as deputy attorney general in Mr. Trump’s second administration.
- He is likely to field sharp questions from Democrats on the committee, and possibly some Republicans, about the Justice Department’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, its handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and prosecutions of Mr. Trump’s perceived political enemies, including former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
